Azamgarh

Azamgarh is a district of Uttar Pradesh province of India. Azamgarh was established in 1665 AD by the Azam Khan in place of an ancient village named Fulwaria. Here the temple of Gaurishankar was built in 1760 AD by a priest of a local king. Azamgarh is located in Uttar Pradesh.

Historical:
Azamgarh, situated on the banks of Tamasa river, is an important district of Uttar Pradesh state. This district is located in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh. Azamgarh is situated between the Ganges and the Ghaghra river. This place was also very important from historical perspectives. It is located on the border of district Mau, Gorakhpur, Ghazipur, Jaunpur, Sultanpur, and Ambedkar districts. Maharajganj, Durvas, Mubarpur, Mehnagar, Bhavnath Temple and Avantikapuri etc. are especially famous for tourism. Azam Khan, son of Vikramjeet, who was a powerful landlord, had established Azamgarh in 1665 AD during the reign of Shah Jahan. This is why this place is known as Azamgarh. This place has a special significance even during the freedom movement.

Maharajganj:
Located on the banks of the small Sarai river, situated about 23 kilometers from Maharajganj district headquarters. The names of the kings in Azamgarh are more elaborate, the reason here is that this place is known as Maharajganj. There is also a fair old temple here. This temple is dedicated to Bhairon Baba. Bhairon Baba is also known as Deotriti. In addition to this, it was the place where Lord Shiva's wife Parvati was present in the holy yajna altar. The fair is organized every month on the full moon day.

Mubarakpur:
Mubarakpur is situated at a distance of 13 km from the north-east of the district headquarters. Earlier this place was known as Kasimabad. After some time this place was rebuilt. This place was rebuilt by King Mubarak again. This place is quite famous for Banarasi sarees. These Banarasi sarees are exported all over the world. Apart from this, there is an old temple of Thakurji and the mosque of Raja Sahib is also located.

Mahanagar:
This place is located 36 kilometers east-southeast of the district headquarters. Here is a famous fort built by King Hariaban. This fort has a memorial and a lake which is quite famous. This lake is known as Mandilah Sarovar. Religious fairs are organized every year at a distance of three kilometers from the lake.

Durvas:
This place is located at a distance of 6 kilometers north of Phulpur tehsil headquarter. This place is famous for the relics of Durvasa Rishi's ashram here. On the occasion of Kartik Purnima every year many big fairs are organized here. Thousands of students used to come here to acquire knowledge.

Bhavnath Temple:
 This temple is one of the major temples of Azamgarh district. Bhavnath temple is situated at a distance of two kilometers from the city. This temple dedicated to Lord Shiva is about a hundred years old. It is believed that whatever the true mind comes into this temple, it is absolutely necessary to fulfill its wish. A big fair is organized here on the occasion of Mahashivaratri. Thousands of devotees gather in this fair.

Avantikapuri:
Avinakapuri located in Mohammedpur is a popular place. It is believed that King Janmejaya had organized a yagna here to kill all the snakes on Earth once. The temple and Sarovar situated here are also famous. A lot of people dive in this lake.

Agriculture and Industry:
Sugar mills and knitting fabrics are the major industries here. The agricultural land area of Azamgarh, which is connected to the North-Eastern railroad, is in Urad. There is enough rainfall here. Rice, wheat, and sugarcane are the main crops here. Located on the sacred coast of Tamsa, this district is the sacred property of Azamgarh many sages.

Azamgarh district is situated in the eastern part of Uttar Pradesh, which is situated between the Ganges and Ghaghra.

It has been the birthplace of the people of Manis, rishis, thinkers, scholars and freedom fighters since the district since the beginning. This district was rebuilt by Nawab Azamshah, hence the name was Azamgarh. Azamgarh Mandal was created on 15th November 1994 as the 14th Circle.
