Muzaffarnagar

Muzaffarnagar is a city in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh. It is also the headquarters of Muzaffarnagar district.

History:
According to the history and revenue evidence, the King of Delhi, Shah Jahan, gave the paragana named Sarvat (SARVAT) to his Sardar Syed Mujaffar Khan in the jagir where in 1633 he and his son Munawar Lashkar Khan named Mujaffar Nagar This city settled.

But the history of this place is very old. Situated on the banks of the Kali river, there is a strong relic of Harappa-carpet civilization in the village of Mandi in Sadar Tahsil. For more information, the Indian Survey Department is doing excavation work there. Jewelry and gold jewelery like precious jewelery and precious gems show that this place was the center of trade in ancient times. This place is also described in the Persian history of Timur invasion. The Bawannara Bridge, built over the Kali river on Saharanpur road, six kilometers from the city, was built by Sher Shah Suri in about 1512 AD. Sher Shah Suri was seated on Delhi's throne by defeating the Mughal emperor Humayun at that time. He had constructed the road for the arrival of Army LeT, which later became known as Grant Trunk Road. Bawn Pass Bridge is on this route. It is believed that it was designed at that time that even if there was a severe flood in the Kali river, water could not cross the bridge. A total of 52 passes have been made in the bridge. Due to being shabby now it is not being used. In the village of Sheelah, Sher-shah Suri was constructed for the encampment of the army. The fort made of Lakhori brick of this citadel is still present.

The mazar of Syed Mahmud Ali Khan located in village Garhi Mereda is an example of the workmanship of Mughalakal. The 400-year-old mazar and the Bay's wells located in the village are supervised by the Archeology Department. After the death of Mughal Emperor Aur Gazeb, when there was no ruler to oversee the affairs of the Mughal Empire at Delhi's throne, then Sayyid Bundu of Janshak was considered a celebrated personality at that time. Without his will, no ruler could sit on Delhi's throne. Zahedar Shah and Mohammad Shah Rangeela were made the ruler of Delhi by the Syed brothers. The office of the Indian National Congress was opened on 6th April 1919 under the leadership of Dr. Babu Ram Garg, Ugar Sen, Keshav Gupta, and Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya, Mahatma Gandhi, Moti Lal Nehru, Jawaharlal Nehru, Sarojini Naidu, Subhash Chandra Bose etc. Leaders visited Muzzafar Nagar from time to time. Buddhists from Khatauli Pandit Sundar Lal, Lala Hardayal, Shanti Narayan etc. took part in the freedom movement.
