Itavah is a major city and Lok Sabha constituency of Uttar Pradesh, India. It is located at Delhi-Calcutta National Highway 2. The city of Etawah is located in the northern India of the western central Uttar Pradesh state. Etawah is situated on the banks of river Yamuna (Jamuna) in the southeast of Agra. There are many potholes in this city. One of which separates the old city (south) from the city (north). Bridges and embankments add both parts.
History
Built in the 16th century in Etawah, the Jami Masjid is built on a high base from the remains of old Hindu buildings. There is also a remnant of 15th-century fortress surrounded by Hindu temples. Etawah's old name is called Ishtikapur. The famous poet of Hindi, Dev was a resident of Etawah. He himself has written - 'Dyasariya kavidev ko Nagar etaviv vas.'
