Biography:
Early life and education:
His grandfather Upendkishore Rai Chaudhary was a writer, painter, philosopher, publisher and an astronomer. These were also the leaders of the Brahmin society. The son of Upendra Kishore, son of Sukumar Rai, wrote a bizarre poem in Bengali and was also the critic of Satyajit Ray Sukumar and Suprapha Rai's son. His birth took place in Calcutta when Satyajit was only three years old, his father had to pass on a minor salary of Suprabha. Ray taught economics at Presidency College, Kolkata, but his interest was always in fine arts.

In 1940, his mother requested that it be further read in the University of Vishwa Bharati established by Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore. Rai had a keen interest in Kolkata and it was not particularly affected by Shantiniketan's intellectual world. Because of his mother's insistence and respect for her, eventually, she decided to go to Visva-Bharati. In Shantiniketan, opinion was very influenced by Eastern art. He later acknowledged that he learned a lot from renowned painter Nandlal Bose and Binod Bihari Mukherjee. Later, on the life of Mookerjee, a documentary, The Inner Eye, was also made. After seeing the caves of Ajanta, Ellora and Elephanta, they became a fan of Indian art.

Painting:
Prior to completing a five-year course in 1943, Rai left Shantiniketan and returned to Kolkata, where he joined the British Advertising Agency D. J. His job in Kemar started in the name of "The Little Mistress" ("Junior Visual Visual") and was only eighty rupees in months. Although Vision composition was very much liked and used to be used very well, there was some tolerance between the British and Indian personnel because British employees received higher wages. Along with this, Roy feels that "the agency's customers were often fools"

It was almost 1943. A. Gupta started working with the signature press also installed. Gupta asked Rai to create a new home page of the press that was published in the press and gave complete artistic liberation. Rai made a lot of books' homepages, including Jim Corbett's Man-Eater of Earning (Kumaon's Man-Eater, Kumaon Kaleeshakshi) and Jawahar Lal Nehru's Discovery of India (Discovery of India, the discovery of India) is included. He also worked on the well-known novel of Bengal Pather Panchali (Patthar Panthi, song of Path) Bal version, which was named Common Internal Bumpu (Amma Dharati Bande, Mango Kthi Kitti). Rai was very impressed with this composition and his first film was made in this novel. With the creation of the homepage, they also made pictures within this book. Many of these pictures are visible in the scenes of their films.

Roy also created two new fonts - "Roy Roman" and "Rai Bijar" Rai Raman won an international competition in 1970, Roy was considered a skilled painter in Kolkata. Roy creates pictures and home pages of his books and composes the promotional material for films himself.

Movie direction:
Rai, along with Chidanand Dasgupta and others in the year 1947, started the Calcutta Film Session, in which he got many foreign films. He made friendship with the American soldiers established in Calcutta in World War II, who gave him information about new films being shown in the city. In 1949 Roy married a distant relative and has long been his beloved Bijoy Roy. He has a son, Sandeep, who is now his film director. This year, French film director Za Ranwar came to Kolkata to shoot his film.

Roy helped Rwarwar to find a suitable place in the country. Rai told him his idea of making a film on Pather Panchali, then Rwarwar encouraged him. [8] In 1950 D.J. Kemar sent Rai to the agency headquarters in London. In the three months spent in London, Roy watched 99 films. These included the Laidri de biciclett, the novelty film of Vittorio de Sica, which influenced them inwardly. Roy later said that if he came out of a cinema, then he was determined to become a film director.

The success of films did not bring much change in family life. He lived in a rented house with his mother and other family members. In the 1960s, Ray traveled to Japan, and there she went to renowned film director Akira Kurosawa. In India, they often used to plot the plot in Darjeeling or Puri, to avoid the fateful part of the city.

Illness and demise:
While working on the film Ghre Baire in 1983, Ray had a heart attack, which reduced his work capacity in the remaining 9 years of his life. The cinematography of the house bire is completed in 1984 with the help of the son of Rai. In 1992, due to cardiovascular impairment, the health of Rai got worsened, so that she could never recover. A few weeks before his death, he was awarded the prestigious Academy Award. He died on April 23, 1992. On the death of Kolkata, the city was almost stopped and thousands of people came to pay tribute to them at their home.

Literary works:
Rai composed two popular characters in the Bengali language literature - Intelligence Feluda and Scientific Professor Shanku. He also wrote several short stories, which were published in the compilation of twelve-twelve stories and were always playing twelve related words in his name. For example, one hundred and twenty-two Roy had a lot of love with puzzles and multiplayer words. It can also be seen in their stories - Pheludas often have to solve puzzles to get to the bottom of the case. Like Sherlock Holmes and Doctor Watson, Feluda's stories are described by her cousin. The science fiction of Professor Shanku is in the form of a daily candy that gets after the sudden disappearance of the cone. In these stories, Rai has broken the unknown and thriller elements, which can not be seen in his films. Almost all of his stories have been translated into Hindi, English and other languages.

Almost all the stories of Rai have also been published in Bangla language literary magazine Ekshan. In 1982, Roy wrote an autobiographical short poem Chhota Chilam (when I was young) Apart from this, he has written several books on the subject of films, the main of which is his films, Our Films, His Films, Our Films, His Films. This book, published in 1976, is a compilation of opinions written by Rai. The first part is the description of Indian cinema and the second part is centered on Hollywood. Roy has given special attention to such topics as directors like Charlie Chaplin and Akira Kurosawa and Italian Neanderthalism. In 1976, he published another book - Subject Movie which is a brief description of his contemplation on various aspects of cinema. Apart from this, another book, Ek Bole Shooting (1979) and other essays on films have also been published.

Rai has also written a compilation of bizarre poems called Ghodar Dim, which includes the translation of Louis Carroll's poem Jaberwowki. He also published a compilation of stories of Mullah Nasruddin in Bengali.

Awards and rewards:
Roy received many awards and honors in life. Oxford University gave him honorary doctoral degrees. After Charlie Chaplin, he was the first film director to receive this honor. He was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1985 and the Legion of Honor of France in 1987. Some time before his death, he was awarded the honorable Academy Award and Bharat Ratna of India's highest honor. Posthumously, at the San Francisco International Film Festival, he received Akira Kurosawa award-winning life-long achievement in the direction which Sharmila Tagore received from him.

It is generally believed that after the heart attack, the films they made were not like the first ones. His personal life was never on the target of the media, but some believe that he was related to film actress Madhavi Mukherjee in the 1960s.
