Bhairon Singh Shekhawat

Bhairon Singh Shekhawat (23 October 1923 - 15 May 2010) was the Vice President of India. He remained in the post from 19th August 2002 to 21 July 2007. He was also the Chief Minister of Rajasthan from 1977 to 1980, 1990 to 1992 and from 1993 to 1998. He was a member of Bharatiya Janata Party.

Bhairon Singh Shekhawat was born in the Khotriwas village of the princely state of Jaipur. This village is now in Sikar district of Rajasthan. His father's name was Shri Devi Singh Shekhawat and mother's name was Mrs. Bunny Kanwar. Received alphabets in the village school. High school education was obtained from Joanner, 30 kilometers away from the village, where it had to be taken for walking. After high school, he had enrolled in Maharaja College, Jaipur, that the father died and the burden of the maintenance of eight family members of the family fell on the shoulders and consequently the solution had to be taken in hand. Later, the police also did the job; But in spite of not feeling in it, Rama and resignation started cultivating again.

After independence, the establishment of democracy opened the doors of progress for the common citizen. When the assembly was established in Rajasthan in the year 1952, Shekhawat also tried the luck and became a legislator. Then he did not look back and climbed up the ladder and reached the position of Leader of the Opposition, Chief Minister and Vice-President.
