Sucheta Kripalani

Sucheta Kripalani (born Sucheta Majumdar) (June 25, 1 908-1 December 1974) was an Indian freedom fighter and politicians. He became the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh and was the Chief Minister of India's first woman.

The contribution of Mrs. Sucheta Kriplani in the freedom movement will always be remembered. Born in 1908, Sucheta was educated in Lahore and Delhi. He was jailed for participating in the freedom movement. In 1946, he was elected a member of the Constituent Assembly. From 1958 to 1960 he was the General Secretary of the Indian National Congress. From 1963 to 1967, he was the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh. He died on December 1, 1974. In her condolence message, Smt. Indira Gandhi said that "Sucheta was such a rare courage and a woman of character, to which women of Indian women get respect."

Sucheta Kriplani was the first woman Chief Minister of the country. He was very close to Mahatma Gandhi in the tragedy of partition. Sucheta Kriplani is among those few women who laid the foundations of country's freedom by staying close to Bapu. He was with Bapu in Novakhali tour. Prior to becoming Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1963, he was elected to the Lok Sabha two times in a row. Sucheta was soft on the heart, but while taking administrative decisions, she listened to the heart, not the heart. During his Chief Ministerial rule, the state employees continued the strike for 62 consecutive days, but he got reconciled with the staff leaders only when his attitude came softly. While Sucheta's husband Acharya Kriplani herself was a socialist.
