Ramaswamy Venkataraman, (4 December 1 910-27 January 2009) was the 8th President of India. He remained in the post from 1987 to 1992. Prior to becoming the President, he was Vice-President of India for 4 years. He died on 27 January after a long illness. He was 98 years old. Many politicians across the country, including President, Vice President, and Prime Minister, have condoled their demise. He breathed his last at Army's Research and Referral Hospital in Delhi at 2:30. He was admitted to the hospital on January 12 after complaining of urinary infection in urinary blight. They were also suffering from respiratory illness. His tenure lasted from 1987 to 1992. Venkataraman remained Vice-President of the country for nearly four years before he assumed office.

Venkataraman was born on December 4, 1910, in Pattukkottai, near Tanjore in Tamil Nadu. Most of his education was initiated in the capital of Chennai (the then Madras). He obtained a master's degree from economics from the University of Madras. After this, he studied law at Law College, Madras. After completing the education, he started practicing in the Madras High Court since 1935, and from 1951 he started practicing in the Supreme Court. During the advocacy, he participated in the country's independence movement and played an active role in the Quit India Movement of 1942.
Given his superiority in advocacy after independence, the Government of India gave him a place in the team of excellent lawyers of the country. From 1947 to 1950, he remained the secretary of bar federation of Madras province. Being aware of law information and student politics, they soon came to politics. In the year 1950, he was elected to the Provisional Parliament of Independent India. After that, he was a member of the country's first parliament from 1952 to 1957. He was also Secretary of the Congress Party from 1953 to 1954.

Despite being elected to Parliament in 1957, Ramaswamy Venkataraman resigned from the Lok Sabha seat and assumed the post of a minister in the government of Madras. During this time, he carried out several developmental works for the betterment of industries, society, traffic, economy, and the public. In 1967 he was appointed a member of the Planning Commission and he was given the responsibility of major departments like industry, traffic, and railway. In 1977, he was elected a member of the Lok Sabha from the seat of South Madras. In which he played the role of opposition leader.
After being elected a member of Lok Sabha in 1980, he was given the charge of the Finance Ministry in the Government of Indira Gandhi and after that, he was made Defense Minister. He made official trips to Western and Eastern Europe as well as the Soviet Union, America, Canada, Southwest Asia, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, Yugoslavia, and Mauritius. He became Vice President of the country in August 1984. Along with that, he was also the President of the Rajya Sabha. During this time, he was the President of the Indira Gandhi Peace Prize and the Judge of the Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding. He took oath as the eighth President of the country on July 25, 1987.

The Central Government, former President R. In the honor of Venkataraman, the country has declared a seven-day national mourning. An official spokesman said that there will be no government entertainment program in this period and all government buildings will be tilted in half. Simultaneously, all government programs, including the Beating Retreat and the Prime Minister's Rally of the National Cadet Corps, were canceled after the Republic Day celebrations.
He was cremated with full state honors at the place of unity in New Delhi on Wednesday 29th January. His son-in-law, KB Venkat, gave him a kiss. The earth's body of Venkataraman merged in Panchatattya between the worship of God and Lord of the 21 guns. Earlier, President Pratibha Patil paid tribute to him. On January 30, the bones of the former president were flown in the river Ganga in Haridwar. His son-in-law Dr. K. Venkataraman and Professor R. Ramachandran and daughter Lakshmi V. Venkateshwar reached here with their bones from Delhi. Education Minister Madan Kaushik, District Collector of Haridwar, Shailesh Bagoli and SSP Sanjay Gunjyal were also present on the special jetty.
Pandit Sundar Raghav Sharma, who came from Delhi with the members of the former President's family, worshiped on the pier and later bone was flown in the river. Earlier, the top officers of Army's Sixth Artillery Brigade offered floral wreaths to Venkataraman on the outer side of the holy city in Raiyala area.
