Rajeev Gandhi

Rajiv Gandhi (August 20, 1944 - May 21, 1991), son of Indira Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru's nahita, was the seventh Prime Minister of India.

After the assassination of Indira Gandhi in 1984, her son Rajiv Gandhi became the Prime Minister with an overwhelming majority. After that, the Congress lost in the 1989 general elections and the party was in opposition for two years. Rajiv Gandhi was killed in a fierant bomb explosion in Sriperumbudur of Tamil Nadu during the 1991 general election.

Rajiv was married to Antonia Miao, who was a citizen of Italy at the time. After marriage, his wife changed her name to Sonia Gandhi. It is said that he met Rajiv Gandhi when Rajiv went to study in Cambridge. They got married in 1968, after which they started living in India. Rajiv and Sonia have two children, son Rahul was born in 1970 and daughter Priyanka was born in 1971.

political life:
There was no interest in Rajiv Gandhi's politics and he used to serve as an airline pilot. After the Emergency, when Indira Gandhi had to leave the power, then for some time Rajiv had gone to live with the family. However, in 1982, Rajiv Gandhi entered politics in support of Mother Indira after an untimely death in her younger brother Sanjay Gandhi's accidental accident. He became a Member of Parliament by winning the Lok Sabha election from Amethi and became Prime Minister of India after the assassination of Prime Minister Indira Gandhi by Sikh militants on October 31, 1984, and remained the Prime Minister after getting the majority in the next general elections. During his prime ministership, the issue of kickbacks (commission-bribe) taken by Indian Army in the purchase of Bofors gun, whose main character was Italian Ottavio Quattrocchi, was a friend of Sonia Gandhi. In the next election, the Congress lost and Rajiv had to withdraw from the post of Prime Minister.

In the next elections, the prospect of winning the Congress and becoming the Prime Minister of Rajiv Gandhi was very less. Meanwhile, on 21 May 1991, Tamil terrorists killed Rajiv in a bomb blast.
