Neelam Sanjiva Reddy (October 27, 19-20 - November 9, 2005) was the sixth President of India. His tenure lasted from 25 July 1977 to 25 July 1982. Born to the farming family of Andhra Pradesh, the image of Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was a poet, experienced politician and efficient administrator. His public life was excellent. When Indira Gandhi was defeated in the general elections of 1977, at that time, the newly formed political party Janata Party made her the President's candidate. He was the first non-Congress President of India. He became the first Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh in October 1956 and again for the second time from 1962 to 1964. He served as President of the Indian National Congress from 1959 to 1962.
Political life:
At the age of eighteen, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy jumped into the freedom struggle. Not only this, he was also influenced by Mahatma Gandhi and in his life he also made his first Satyagraha. He started his political life as a member of the Youth Congress. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was very active at the age of twenty.
In 1936, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was elected general secretary of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee. He has served this post for almost 10 years. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy also edited the functions of Ministry of Environment and Forest Prohibition in Madras State. In 1951, he resigned from the post of minister in order to participate in the election of the post of Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee.
Neelam Sanjiva Reddy Professor N.G. The president was elected by defeating Ranga. This year, it became an elected member of All India Congress Working Committee and Central Parliamentary Board. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy chaired the three sessions of Congress Party On March 10, 1962, he resigned as the president of the Congress, and on 12 March 1962, he again became the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh. He stayed for two years in this post. He himself resigned from his post.
Neelam Sanjiva Reddy came in national politics in 1964 and Prime Minister Lal Bahadur Shastri handed him the load of the Steel and Mines Ministry at the center. In the same year, he was nominated for the Rajya Sabha and remained a member till 1977. When elections were held in the Lok Sabha in 1971, Neelam Sanjiva Reddy contested on the ticket of Congress-O but faced defeat. With this defeat, Mr. Reddy was deeply shocked. He returned to Anantapur and spent much of his time in agricultural work. After a long interval, on May 1, 1975, Shri Neelam Sanjiva Reddy returned to active politics. In January 1977, he became a member of the Working Committee of the Janata Party, and in the sixth Lok Sabha election, he nominated his nomination papers from the Janata Party in Andhra Pradesh's Nandial seat.
When the results of the election came, he was the only non-Congress candidate from Andhra Pradesh who had won. On 26th March 1977, Mr. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was elected unanimously the speaker of Lok Sabha. But on July 13, 1977, he left the post because he was being nominated for the presidential post, in which Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was elected unanimously the eighth president. Neelam Sanjiva Reddy was awarded the honorary doctorate in 1958 by Sri Venkateswara University, Trimurthy.
